From the Sakha Republic (Yakutia), Russia – a land of extreme cold yet rich in diverse culture and a distinctive music scene – emerges Elements of Dust. Their music, rooted in instrumental post-rock and ambient, encapsulates shifting emotions: sorrow and anger, serenity and hope. Without relying on melody or lyrics, they communicate through the raw texture of sound itself, reaching directly into the listener’s inner world.
Each piece by Elements of Dust unfolds like the drawing of a landscape. Drums and bass carve out space, while the shimmering echoes of guitar arpeggios resonate across it. These wordless images expand beyond language and culture, allowing listeners to overlay their own memories and feelings, and to discover a different story within each song. For Elements of Dust, music is not only something to be heard – it is something to be experienced.
Since their 2022 debut, Are You Sensitive to Dust?, the band has steadily accelerated their output, releasing the single Exhale (2024), the official music video April Song, and the live film Live Sakha Sire 2024. They have toured across Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan, performed alongside Denis Alexeev (Gazelle of Death), and appeared at Mongolia’s Playtime Festival. In March 2025, they held their first large-scale solo concert in Yakutsk, establishing themselves as one of the defining bands of the Yakutian scene.
Their live performances possess a power that far exceeds their recordings. Torrents of sudden, overwhelming sound give way to taut silences; tension and release collide, shaking the audience’s senses and transforming the atmosphere of the room. The vibrations inscribe themselves into the body, and before long, each listener finds their own images rising within. An Elements of Dust concert is a one-time “moment of becoming,” and to witness it is to encounter the essence of the band.
That music born on the periphery of Yakutia can carry such universal force is no mystery. Elements of Dust treat sound as a catalyst, binding emotion and landscape together. Their music contains both the chill of the northern air and the fervor of the people who live there. It carries listeners far away, while at the same time pulling them deep within. Elements of Dust stand as a new, vital presence in the global post-rock scene.
