Based in Switzerland, the experimental jazz trio LEIB (Kevin Sommer on clarinet, Cyril Ferrari on guitar, and Lucas Briner on drums). The trio’s unique instrumentation—clarinet, guitar, and drums—breaks down conventional notions of the instruments, transcending melody and rhythm to create a phenomenon of sound itself. The gritty texture of noise, faint echoes, and the interplay of collision and silence carve the space like a sculpture.

LEIB’s expression is a ritual-like experience that oscillates between tension and release. The contrast between sudden roars and subtle particle sounds shakes the listener’s senses to the core. The sound diffuses while embracing the atmosphere of the city, transforming the space itself. LEIB’s live performances are not just about “listening,” but about the body and place resonating with the sound in a generative space.

Their debut album, Mother Hologram / Sister Anagram, was released by the Argentine avant-garde label Neue Numeral. The first half, Sister Anagram, features a variety of sound fragments that speak to the listener, such as the drone-like Chanson Sinus, the pointillistic noise of Punkt, and the primitive groove of Force Mécanique. The latter half, “Mother Hologram,” is a completely improvised section spanning approximately 20 minutes. The performance carves out uncharted soundscapes, oscillating between mechanical tension and the faint, birdlike echoes of a gentle melody.

The unconventional sounds presented in the latest work, “Mother Hologram / Sister Anagram,” are reconfigured in the urban space of Kansai. A chain of irreproducible moments will emerge before the audience.
